I don’t know about you, but as we approach the end of 2024, I’m feeling quite tired! We’ve been juggling work, family, and everything in between, and it’s easy to feel like we’re running on empty. But,  despite the challenges, there’s still a spark of hope for what the new year might bring. So, let’s take a moment to pause, reflect, and set ourselves up for a more balanced and fulfilling 2025.

Balance is a funny old thing, isn’t it? It looks different for everyone. For some, it might mean finally taking that leap and changing careers. For others, it could be about setting firmer boundaries or prioritising self-care. This is a topic that comes up when I’m working 1:1 and in my workshops, regardless of what the topic and goals are!

With this in mind, I thought it would be a great topic to close off 2024 with. Whatever balance means to you, I’ve got four practical steps to help you create it in 2025. Maybe start now, so it’s a habit once January comes?

  1. Reconnect with Your Values

Your values are your personal compass. They guide your decisions and help you understand what truly matters. When was the last time you really thought about your values? It doesn’t have to take too long, so why not start by asking yourself:

– What’s most important to me right now?

– How do my current choices reflect my values?

– Are there areas where I’m compromising too much?

If you’re scratching your head, try this instead: write down five non-negotiables in your life or career. It could be flexibility, creativity, financial security, or family time (or whatever else comes to mind). Use these as a focus when you think about 2025.

  1. Look Back to Move Forward

Reflection is a powerful tool for growth and balance. It’s not about dwelling on the past but learning from it. Now it’s time to consider:

– What went well this year? Why?

– What were your biggest challenges? How did you handle them?

– What would you like to do differently next year?

Don’t emotionally beat yourself up, about things that haven’t gone to plan. Take the opportunity to reset and refocus; just bring the things into 2025 that work for you!

  1. Make Self-Care Non-Negotiable

Self-care isn’t selfish—it’s essential. Yet, it’s often the first thing we drop when life gets hectic. In 2025, let’s change that, shall we? Think about what recharges you. Is it a walk in nature? A few minutes of mindfulness? Reading a book? Or listening to music?

Schedule these activities into your calendar like any other important appointment. Start small if you need to—even 5 minutes can make a world of difference, and I hope you can find that time for yourself.

  1. Celebrate Your Wins with a Ta-Da List

How often do you end the day focusing on what you didn’t do? Let’s flip that script! A Ta-Da List is a celebration of everything you did accomplish—big or small. If you are regular reader of the blog, this won’t be the first (or the last time) this will be mentioned. If you are newer to the concept, let me fill you in. At the end of each day, jot down three things you achieved and how they made a difference. It’s a brilliant way to shift your mindset from “I didn’t do enough” to “Look at everything I’ve done!”

These steps aren’t about adding more to your plate—they’re about creating space for clarity and intention. By reconnecting with your values, reflecting on the past year, prioritising self-care, and celebrating your achievements, you’ll be setting yourself up for a more balanced and fulfilling 2025. I know because it works for me and my clients.

Remember, balance isn’t a destination; it’s an ongoing journey. It’s about making choices that align with who you are and what matters most to you. So, take it one step at a time, and trust that those steps will lead you towards the balance you deserve.
