Taking your child to work is the ultimate way of achieving work-life balance.
I had the opportunity to take my children to work with me this week, firstly to a business meeting with a fellow working Mum, then, just my eldest daughter, to watch me speak at the LoveLBG Ladies Business Group event at Moor Hall. This was a unique opportunity where she could see me “in action” whilst meeting inspiring business women working in a variety of different sectors and roles.
Witnessing your parents at work is quite a rare thing. I was able to experience it during my 5th-year work experience, as it was at the primary school my Mum worked at! Being able to see her in “work mode” was so interesting. A side of her that I didn’t see at home.
I loved that Grace got to see me in a new light, but more importantly, she was surrounded by businesswomen who are now imprinted as role models. She witnessed the variety of businesses and jobs that they all do; she was fascinated after hearing from The Real Lady Detective Agency that Private Detective was a “real job”. Not just one you found in books.
The blog for you this week is not one filled with tips, but a challenge. I want you to think about your children and the young people you have in your life. Are they experiencing the full breadth of what is possible for them? Could you create an opportunity to bring them to work and see what your job or business means to the world?
