This week’s Featured Client shows how a leap of faith, self-belief, and a solid plan can help you take your working life into your own hands. I am very proud to feature Dipti Thakrar.
I first discovered Clara through Fitbumpbox by Dr. Jo Helcké’s newsletter for pregnancy tips on fitness. Clara’s views on work-life balance struck a chord as at that time, I was pregnant with number four!
I was about to embark on my next maternity leave; one I was looking forward too but also dreading as many changes at work were in motion. I had a part-time senior role at the time, where my line manager had been sold on my craft and ability to deliver. I suspected life would change if he left…
I contacted Clara for a chat to see if we could start a coaching program that allowed me to explore my options. We had six sessions and at the start of each, I’d have two or three things I wanted to discuss.
Clara shared how she had moved from an employed role to a self-employed/freelance position; including the challenges she faced. I found this very insightful and it guided me well. She also planted a few seeds for me through the actions she set me, including working on my 60-second pitch and repackage myself professionally.
She also uncovered my blind-spots and allowed me to work through those.
Today, I’m in a good place. 2018 was my first year as a freelancer and by the summer I had matched my part-time salary. The financial element is a significant achievement for me and one I was not expecting to do. Also, the freedom to do what I absolutely love is where I have gained the most. I also bought a small business which is teaching me so much more than what I have ever found in a book.
For anyone that is considering coaching, I would definitely recommend it! Always worth following people on social media especially if you’re trying to hire them as a coach. Ask for recommendations from colleagues to see why they have used them and then set up a scoping call. Most coaches offer this for free.
Then, book in a few sessions with a loose agenda in mind which you can work with your coach on and develop further.
You do gain a lot from coaching sessions and it is a great investment in your own professional career and lifestyle.
