The first draft of this post was written whilst I was sitting in the car, waiting for my eldest to finish school. Nothing unusual about that, I have been doing this for five years; however, this was the first time I had left her to walk a (small) part of the journey home. It was only a matter of yards from the school gates to the car, yet this experience was way outside of my “mother” comfort zone.
“It needs to happen”, I kept reminding myself, “She’ll be in secondary school soon: she is sensible, she is walking with friends, and it is a familiar route”. All of this logical processing still didn’t stop the urge to run to the school gates and bundle her into my arms! The drive to school that morning gave us the chance to prepare; where to meet, how she needs to behave, what was the Plan B if I inevitably run late and have to park the car elsewhere.
What has this got to do with The Balance Collective, I hear you ask! This experience has made me think about how you can take control of uncomfortable situations; those that are outside of your comfort zone. These are the key areas I believe will help you:

1. Evidence
What previous experience or knowledge do you have to show you (or someone else in my case) are capable, confident and willing to do this thing?

2. Planning
What do you need to know to help you feel more relaxed about the event or situation?

3. Fall-back
If those negative gremlins start creeping into your mind, what could be your Plan B?

4. Small Steps
With all this in mind, what is the first step you will take to get you closer to the edge of your comfort zone?

Think about the one thing that you know you want, but fear is stopping you. Now use the four steps above to start your journey.

Give it a go; I would love to hear how you get on!
