There are five people every parent should have around them as part of their parent support tribe. Whilst friends and family are amazing, sometimes they just aren’t the right support network to have when you are making a change. Be it a new job, starting a new business or some other life altering experience.
You see, our friends and family want the best for us. This could be metaphorically staying with us in sympathy, in a pit of despair, shaking our fists at an (insert expletive) of a boss. They may want us to not every have to worry about inconsistent money, so convince you to not take a leap into self-employment.
They want to protect you. To keep you comfortable. They may project their expectations and experiences of their life or career onto yours. It is all from a place of love, of concern.
What you need a Tribe. A group of people that support you and have a similar interest or belief. Your own personal cheerleaders! One of the brilliant business women who are part of my Tribe, is Karen Wharton, the MD of Obsession Salon and Spa. She defines her Tribe as a “Board you can’t afford”.
What is Tribe?
A group of people who will support your goals and aims, whilst challenging you! To not put up with your internal chatter that tells you “I can’t” or “Not ready yet”. They push you out of your comfort zone to enable you to achieve your very best. This could be your “Life Board”, who support you to develop your career, wealth or self-esteem. They listen to you, reinforce your successes and work together to overcome any negative, damaging self-beliefs.
They are people that should be positive and you connect with regularly.
Who is your Tribe?
The five people every parent should have in their life, are people who:
- Educates you; opens your mind to new ways, information and mind set.
- Inspires you; by their life path, challenges or business.
- Challenges you; calls you out on your excuses and holds you accountable.
- Connects you; to other likeminded people.
- Grounds you; gives you a reality check!
Who would your five be? Do you see them or speak to them enough? Make sure you get the time in the diary to speak more often.
Part of my tribe is my Facebook Group, The Balance Collective with Clara Wilcox. Join to speak to likeminded, supportive parents and access my coaching and coaching support every week, for Free, during our Questions and Answer sessions.
