Looking back on the blogs I’ve written during 2020, I see more than just 50 articles; I see examples of how writing can help the author as well as the reader. My content strategy was thrown out of the window in mid-March, and I returned to my approach from earlier on in my self-employment journey. I wrote in response to what I was feeling and what was happening with my clients.  I wanted to share my standout articles from 2020; a blog round-up that I hope will help you in 2021.

The creation of a round-up article is usually quite simple. A quick review of my stats shows me the most read over the previous 12-months. However, I’m writing this the first week of 2021; the morning after we were told that the UK was going into varying forms of lockdown. The day when my two were back home-schooling for at least the next seven weeks!
There are definite feelings of deja-vu, plus lots of tears and a ripping up of plans; but also, a sense of hope and, as we all have the knowledge we have been through this before! So today I want to share with you the articles that are full of tips that not only helped my clients in 2020 but helped me by writing them.

What are you interested in reading about today?

The importance of building resilience
I never would have guessed at the beginning of the year that resilience would end up being my word of 2020; it turned up in ten of my blogs over this year and became the subject of my most popular online workshops. However, it’s a tool that we need to work on every day, so when we need it, we have our reserves ready. The two blogs that help the most with this are “How to stay resilient in an ever-changing world” and the personal “How to build your resilience routine.”

New ways of work-life balance
Ok, so let us be honest; work-life balance has become impossible. As you may know from earlier blogs and talks, whilst it is a phrase I use, it’s not actually possible. Nothing can be balanced as a working parent, especially in a world where you must become a teacher overnight! However, this blog (the most read in the last two months, which isn’t a surprise) can give you permission to move things around to suit what you need right now!

Motivating yourself when the world feels out of control
When things feel out of control, one thing we can hang onto is identifying what we need, then what we want. Goal setting is an essential part of creating a career to enjoy, but it can seem overwhelming and scary when we are living through such stressful times. Start by working out with what motivates you, and regain your mojo with simple steps, simplify your goal setting process (tip a career to enjoy isn’t just created by paying attention to your career!) and finally, being gentle on yourself after a year of WTF!

It goes without saying, that I think EVERY article I write can be useful, but I feel these are the ones that are universal to anyone right now; I believe they will offer some hope that you can still create a career to enjoy, and to encourage you to remember to look after yourself. Like the well-known quote encourages, remember to put your own oxygen mask first!
